garrison area ~ barbados

i decided the weekend called for a slow stroll with my camera. it had been a while, and after a long period of struggling with feeling uninspired, i was feeling a bit of a shift. i found myself on the south coast in the historic garrison area and although it was not exactly what i had in mind, i started to enjoy noticing little details.

there are so many abandoned buildings, some with empty rooms, others as though they had to be evacuated and everything remains. it was a bit unnerving peeping into some of the windows but i was so intrigued and sad at the same time ~ it is so upsetting to see buildings fall into such disrepair, a place that holds memories and meaning, empty and abandoned.

among the abandoned buildings and some more recently renovated for offices, there are homes, full of history, that i’m sure my eldest son knows more of than me. it was a glimpse into the barbados of old.
